John’s Journey Col John E McCode and Betsy McCode had a miracle baby after many years of trying; John was almost not born, for Betsy found out she was pregnant when she was going in for a hysterectomy. He was born in Alabama and was what they call an “army brat”. He grew up all over the place; he would say he spoke German before he spoke English. John was fondly known by his family as John 2. John2 had many memorable moments. John 2 would accompany his father in many golf events. John 2 would also spend many summer vacations traveling with his grandmother to our nation’s interest points, which included many national parks. John’s father passed away when John was only 12 years old, which changed his life significantly. In High School, John created his own nick name, JMAC, which many of you have come to know and love him by. John’s travel did not end with the US, he also spent summers abroad through school programs. As a high school student he was awarded a football scholarship to Utah State. In those days a black man in a Mormon state was not common. But you know John; he won the hearts of many with his charm. After his time in Utah, he moved back to California and continued his life a young adult. He roomed with his High School friend, Doc, and began a new set of adventures continued. He met and married Dawn and they had a beautiful daughter, named Dana LeAnn McCode. A few years later, John’s journey took him on a different path. John met Sharon and they decided to start a life together. They moved from Southern California to Northern California, along with, Sharon’s sons, Jacob and Eric, where they raised the boys together. John continued with his career in the electronic industry. John won many, many awards for outstanding achievements, in various categories. John never stood on his own loyals and always continued to stride to be an over achiever. He continued winning numerous awards throughout his career. John was requested to transfer to Southern California. The company wanted him so bad, that they asked “what will it take to get you here”. So, after 20 years of being in Northern California, and the boys on their own, John and Sharon started a new chapter of their life in Southern California. For the last 10 years, John and Sharon have lived in Granada Hills, California, where they were able to get much closer and have more visits with their daughter Dana. John will be much remembered for his love and passion for sports, cars, cooking, and barbequing and how much he adored his wife, Sharon and his family.
